Holidays in the South West Are on the Rise

We’ve been a champion of UK holidays for many years and we are pleased to see that they are increasing in popularity. In particular, the caravan and camping industry is thriving!

According to a report by the UK Caravan and Camping Alliance (UKCCA), the UK holiday park industry generates around £9.3 billion of visitor spend and supports 171,488 jobs. The same report found that, in the summer of 2018, there were 320,005 pitches on 4,845 member holiday parks in England. Most visitors were from England, showing a growing trend towards Brits holidaying in their own country.

One Somerset holiday park saw a 14% increase in holiday bookings this year

We’ve seen particular success for holiday parks in the South West of England in 2019, with more and more people opting to holiday here and stay in a caravan.

The General Manager of St Audries Bay Holiday Club in Somerset, Paul Dunsby, has reported that they have had a 14% increase in holiday bookings in 2019. Similarly, Ben Harper of Smytham Holiday Park in North Devon has told us that they have had a 22% uplift in their touring areas this year. All this goes to show that caravan holidays, whether static or touring, are only increasing in popularity.

Here at Westcountry Resorts, we’re excited to see what 2020 has to bring. We’re confident that it’s going to be positive for the caravan and holiday park industries!
