While Devon is one of the warmest and driest places in the UK, the weather can’t always be perfect and there might be an occasion when you’re here on a rainy day. If you’ve found yourself at a loose end on holiday, and you’re looking for things to do in Devon in the rain, check out our list of suggestions.

Go to the National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth

Plymouth is the perfect place for a family day out. On sunny days, you can stroll by the hoe and enjoy the weather. However, if you find yourself here on a rainy day, you may well need somewhere to take shelter. The National Marine Aquarium is the ideal option for a rainy day – it’s the UK’s largest aquarium and is home to all varieties of sea life including sharks, turtles, rays and jellyfish. Kids will absolutely love it (and so will the adults).

Visit the Royal Albert Memorial Museum in Exeter

The RAMM is a great option for a rainy Devon day if you’re in and around the city of Exeter. There are a number of different collections that include fine art, antiquities and natural history. The museum is also great for kids: they have special interactive suitcases which children can explore, as well as frequent organised activities. They have a different exhibition every few months so there’s always something new to see! The RAMM also has a lovely cafe which is perfect or a light lunch or snack; why not have a cream tea?

Take a Tour of the Plymouth Gin Distillery

This is a fantastic rainy day option if you’re on a Devon holiday with your partner or a group of friends. You can take a tour of the Plymouth Gin Distillery for just £8.50, with pricier options if you want additional goodies. There’s also a cocktail bar located in the distillery, so you can enjoy a delicious drink while you take shelter from the rain.

Get Creative at the Paint Hub in Dawlish

The Paint Hub is a pottery painting studio in Dawlish Warren, and it’s the perfect thing to do on a rainy day in Devon.  As well as offering pottery painting sessions, the studio now has a “Create a Bear” option which is perfect for younger children. The great thing about The Paint Hub is that there are no time limits on your painting session – you can get creative and take as long as you want.
